California Regional Centers
Regional Centers are nonprofit organizations funded by the state of California to provide services and support to individuals with developmental disabilities — and their families. If you have concerns about your child's speech or development, a Regional Center can be an important first step toward getting help.
What is a Regional Center?
California's 21 Regional Centers serve as the entry point for developmental services under the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act. They provide free assessments, service coordination, and connect families to therapies — including speech-language therapy — for children from birth through adulthood. Services for children under age 3 are provided through the Early Start program, and many services continue beyond that age if eligibility is established.
Early intervention matters. If your child is under 3 and you have concerns, you can self-refer to your Regional Center — no doctor's referral needed.
